The story of Wendy van Ierschot

My first job was at Shell, a dream employer at the time. I thought I was going to work with the best people in an environment where learning was paramount. But the reality was different than I thought. After almost 7 years, I resigned. Big business was simply not for me. Too syrupy, too political, not focused enough on innovation, collaboration and really making the world a better place.

In 2002 I started my own company. I felt it was important to have a company with people I also wanted to sit down to Christmas dinner with. I wanted to do the right things and bring the Ferrari of solutions in People & Culture field to SMEs. Energetic and positive, no rules and fuss. Otherwise I "might as well have stayed at Shell". A corporate can afford a lot. I wanted to make that available to smaller companies that are the engine of innovation and our economy. This is what I still pursue. No longer alone, but with 3 private companies in different regions. With people who share this passion and want to make something better in the world. The Ferrari remains a symbol of the quality we deliver and red is and will remain our color. Although as B Corp we are of course much more sustainable than Ferrari.

In 2023, I wrote down the lessons I learned while building my own company as well as working for more than 200 scaleups in my book Scaleups & downs.

The story of Wendy van Ierschot

My first job was at Shell, a dream employer at the time. I thought I was going to work with the best people in an environment where learning comes first. But the reality was different. Although I resigned after almost 7 years, I know for sure that Shell is a top employer if you want to work for a big company. Corporate just wasn't for me. Too syrupy, too much politics, too little substansive focus, too little focus on innovation, cooperation and really making the world a better place.

In 2002, I started my own company. I thought it was important to have a good company, with nice people I would like to have Christmas dinner with. I wanted to do the right thing. For years that has been my motivation for my company. Bringing the Ferrari of People & Culture solutions to SME's. Working energetically and positively, without rules and fuss. Otherwise I might as well have stayed at Shell. A corporate can afford a lot. I wanted to make that available to smaller companies that are the engine of innovation and our economy. That was my goal and this is what I am still doing. No longer alone, but with more than 40 people spread over three regions. People who all share this passion with me and want to make something better in the world with our work. The Ferrari remains a symbol of the quality we deliver and red is and remains our colour, although as B Corp we are of course much more sustainable than Ferrari.
