In 2000 Marius Appelman resigned as a consultant with a large corporate. Not hindered by any knowledge of the travel industry, but an experienced world traveler, he started Riksja Travel out of an urgent need to do things differently than his former employer. His intention: to put people first with an organization buzzing with enthusiasm. He achieved a turnover of 100 million euros with 250 employees. He wrote the book: Rickshaw's journey - with an organization on the road to abundance - about it.
The right formula
Rickshaw's journey - with an organization on the road to abundance. But what is a path to abundance? "Gradually, we discovered a formula in the company that opened up abundance. By over, we actually mean the contrast versus the normal paradigms used in a company. Generally it is about scarcity. Back in the 1900s, economists agreed that there is not enough for everyone. You have to compete, you have to outcompete each other, you have to make sure you come out strong, you have to make people compete with each other as well. Only then do you get a strong set up. Abundance is actually about the opposite. You assume that there is enough for everyone and you open up the energy toward enough in a different way than the energy toward scarcity. We actually gradually discovered how that works. That became more and more fun and powerful and we continued to develop that over time," Marius said.
Energy to abundance
People have many intrinsic energies, or intrinsic motivation. People start flowing and taking responsibility from within themselves when they are invited to do so by a company. If you can invite well then that ultimately leads to much more synergy in the company. When you try to push people in, for example, performance-oriented systems, the result is that people become stagnant and resist. Then you don't get synergy, you just get less than you put in.
