With his book 'DRIVE,' Olympic champion Mark Tuitert put the stoic mindset on the map: a mindset that, according to him, allows you to always stay sharp and relaxed - even in difficult times. In his second book 'FLOW: The stoic mindset for a richly flowing life' he goes further. Like a stoic coach, Mark shows you how many forms philosophy has in practice.
Mark Tuitert was known as the greatest skating talent in the world, but falls, illness and personal struggles prevented a glorious path to the top. After winning Olympic gold in Vancouver and participating in the 2014 Sochi Games, Mark decided to develop his talents in other areas. Thus, he is co-founder of First Energy Gum, produces his own "Drive Podcast" (60,000 listeners per month), and sought-after speaker and coach. Today we are going to talk about 10 clear principles that will help you achieve your goals.
Flow
A life of flow, what exactly is that? Sitting back with a cocktail in your hand? No, definitely not that. "Engaging in life so also choosing the difficult path with all its challenges. But also experiencing peace of mind on the other side. So that balance between those two things, I see it more as a kind of wave you're riding on. The surfer who goes with the wave and ideally you stay on that wave all your life. That's also the trick, but every now and then you also get thrown off and you lie in the surf. Then you get back up and go back to a flowing life," Mark said.
Stoic mindset
"By a stoic mindset, I don't mean living emotionlessly. It's very much considering your emotions. What happens when something is thrown in front of you? In the storm of your life stay upright, like a rock in the surf. We face challenges as entrepreneurs, as top athletes but you have to relate to the death that comes around us. I've always been searching as a top athlete how do you deal with that now. It keeps me from achieving my goals but also living a good life."
