We all disagree sometimes, but in the workplace it can be difficult to come to an agreement. In the Netherlands, we love 'poldering', making compromises. The only thing we sometimes forget is that then both parties lose a little.
Speaker, coach and researcher Roland de Bruijn. Together with bestselling author Prof. Dr. Fons Trompenaars he wrote the book 'end of discussion'. With that book it should become clear how you can create synergy with a difference of opinion.
Roland and Fons worked together at KPMG. Dilemma reconciliation from Fons really appealed to Roland. The big question Roland had: how do you do that? That's where Roland's qualities as a trainer came in.
Why a book?
Nowadays, people think they are better at communication than the average Dutch person. But according to Fons and Roland, this is not the case. People miss opportunities because they are not good at having conversations. They no longer look critically at their own actions in the form of their own communication. Because of this they have no idea about their choice of words and the impact this can have on another person.
In their book, Fons and Roland try to make people look critically at their own way of communicating. Where can it be done better?
The four Rs
The book discusses the 'approach'. Four R's emerge, namely: direction, respect, reconciliation and realization. Fons and Roland, together with Wendy, go into depth. Curious about what they are talking about? Check out the latest episode of the Work Professor!
