The monkey rock seems to be crumbling. Due to the corona crisis and extreme stress in the labor market, according to our guests today, the working relationship is changing dramatically. Where people used to steer on work ability, what do you deliver? Is now much more about how do I get my employees to be happy? People want to be valued for who they are and not just what they do. That includes working horizontally.
Evert Hatzmann is an author, keynote speaker and entrepreneur. His previous publications include Droombaan of brood op de plank and the bestseller Houd je feedback! With his background in sociology, communication, information and religious sciences, Simon van Esch is at the forefront of behavioral intervention programs for managers and employees. Work Happiness
Books are full of books, podcasts are full of talk, but no one really brings to the fore what the term "work happiness" really is. Today, employers are short of hands and feet in the workplace. Especially in this crunch in the workplace, you want to make sure your employees experience job happiness. According to Evert and Simon, Friday afternoon drinks or a game of table tennis at lunch do not fall under work happiness. But what does?
"Anything that really motivates, things that come naturally out of your hands. You produce substances, aka happiness hormones. These can also come from work. We call these work happiness hormones. We set out to find out which ones they are and when do you get them," Evert said.
Conduct
Evert and Simon sat down with 50 CEOs, CHROs and scientists to write their book. The authors found striking a statement from one of the CEOs. "I am no more than an orchestra conductor. I tap with a baton when we all start together. But I mainly check to see if all the members of the orchestra are enjoying themselves and if things are going well. Knowing that if I had to take over their job I would be busy for a year. It's so specialized and it's so special that I'm just tapping on a stick and in the meantime checking to see if everything is pulling up at the same time."
Actually, "the leader" is becoming a conductor. The conductor leads, guides and ensures that everyone performs at top level.
