The benefits affair, shocking. The purple crocodile as a symbol that rules, protocols and manuals have taken over from our own intelligence. Sometimes it seems as if we have built a society that can no longer do without. Simply letting go is not the solution either. Today in the Werkprofessor podcast, Thom Verheggen is our guest to save us from this trap.
Thom was trained and started as an industrial designer. Later, in various organisations, he led innovation in many forms. Searching for the 'smartest company in the Netherlands' he saw what makes special companies special, put that next to his own management experience and wrote about it the book 'De-Managing for Managers'. In 2017, he collaborated on the book 'Anders Vasthouden' (Holding on differently) and since the publication of these books, he has given many lectures and trainings around working from the intention and he guides organisations in the change process.
Standing up for the intention
The book Anders Vasthouden is about the shift from agitating against the system to standing up for the intention. "It is important to always go back to the real task, which must be leading. We have to realise that in complex situations we cannot pre-cook the solution with an out-of-practice solution, but we have to help people so that they can decide for themselves, in the here and now, what is the best thing to do". How do you do this? Thom explains.
Leadership for success
The book describes 9 keys to success. These are divided into 3 categories: What is the key to success and who do we focus on? How do you get people on the shop floor into action? And what attitude should you adopt as a manager and how do you create the right environment? Do you want answers to these questions? Listen now to the latest episode of the Work Professor!
