It's not just hip, it's important: fit employees in the workplace. Doing more with fewer and fewer people. Productivity must increase, but without everyone becoming overtired. Exercise scientist Lieke Wolfraad set up the award-winning Fit@Work program at Accenture. She shares her vision today in the Work Professor, which starts with data-driven insights for behavior change. The key to the balance that allows employees to make more impact.
An exercise scientist with a passion for improving human performance and well-being, Lieke set up the successful and award-winning Fit@Work program for Accenture. The program was eventually implemented Europe-wide within Accenture and is now an integral part of the Accenture Global Talent Strategy. After eight years at Accenture, she transitioned to a role as an entrepreneur within a training agency, before starting Onewave with Stijn Quast. With her proactive attitude, she sets up successful initiatives quickly and efficiently. She is an optimist, down-to-earth and knows how to connect people.
Busier, busier, busiest
During her research at FC Groningen, Lieke discovered that top athletes know that they have to relax again after a hard effort. That sounds only logical, yet there is still a lot to be gained here in the workplace.
The exercise scientist noticed that it made a big difference individually how the top athletes had experienced the workouts and how quickly they recovered from them. The same is true in the workplace. Every employee experiences a team meeting differently. Where one person leaves the meeting whistling, the next walks out of the room stressed out. Is it positive or negative stress? And how does this employee best recover from the exertion he experiences?
Techniques
Onewave's technology gives you insight into when you are stressed, when your body is activated and when your body is calm again. It is similar to a Fitbit and an Apple Watch. A log is kept of your heart rate and based on that, you can see what to gain per person.
Wondering what you can do to make sure your team works more productively but doesn't get burned out? Then listen to the new episode of the Work Professor.
