Staff shortages start with yourself. That's the title of Kirsten de Roo's new book. Can't find new colleagues or are they leaving sooner than you'd like? Look at yourself first before you start pointing to external factors. Why that is important I discuss today with Kirsten she is a recruitment pro and wants to give employers back control over their own staff shortage.
Kirsten de Roo is a mentor and strategist through and through. For over fifteen years she has been helping companies attract and deploy the right people in the right place. With her book "Personnel shortage starts with yourself" she wants employers to think about their own mindset and give them the tools to take control of their personnel shortage.
Visibility
Kirsten's main message is to continuously pay attention to your visibility. According to Kirsten, employers need to get rid of short-term thinking and ad hoc actions. "I'm busy today, so I'm going to put out a job posting. Tomorrow that client quits, so I stop recruiting". But that's not how it works!
Become aware of who you are as a company, who you are as an employer, and what this means from an employer perspective and the people you want to attract. "You will have to pay attention to your visibility. If people don't know you, they can't choose you. If you only start posting job openings when you need people, you're too late. Constantly show who you are. Share stories on social media and make sure you know where your target audience of today and the future is," said Kirsten.
