Companies are increasingly expected not only to make profits but also to be socially responsible. Not only environmental movements such as Extinction Rebellion, Environmental Defense and Greenpeace but also more and more citizens are demanding responsible policies. To demonstrate that companies are doing things right for the world, they can choose to get a certification or seal of approval. One of the prominent examples of this is the B Corp certificate. But becoming a B Corp is not so easy. That is why Mark de Lat, together with Aldo van Duivenboden, wrote the book Better Business Models, a Better World! The first Dutch-language B Corp workbook.
Mark is a strategist and opinion leader with Eshuis Accountants and Advisors and is working on his dissertation research at Nijenrode and Saxion University of Applied Sciences on Sustainability. How SMEs can become more sustainable. This podcast is not only useful if you want to get such a certification, but certainly also for entrepreneurs who want to get inspiring ideas on what you can do to become more persistent, as they say in South Africa, sustainability.
B Corp
What exactly is B Corp? According to Mark, it's a tool to help companies create multiple values. "It's easy to think as a business, it's important to make money, and it is, but what could be better than to use your business model to provide not only a gap in the market, but also a gap in society? That you not only create value in money, but social values for the environment around you, social values for the people you work with, ecological value to leave the world and nature more beautiful than you find it."
