Every now and then we make a special episode of the Werkprofessor podcast, to test whether what we have learned from all the scientists actually works in practice. This week we invite entrepreneur Jaap Korteweg. We test with him the scientific success factors that our professors gave us.
Among other things, Jaap Korteweg set up The Vegetarian Butcher with only one goal: to become the largest butcher in the world. And yes, a sale to Unilever in 2018 fit into that. His new company "Those Vegan Cowboys" has the same ambitious goal vegan grass milk, without a cow, but with grass.
Without knowledge a success
How did Jaap know in advance that The Vegatarian Butcher would be a success? Not according to Jaap, on the contrary. He gave it a 10% chance of success, and even that was optimistic. "I had no understanding of it. But I really wanted to try it because I thought it was so important and because I did give it a chance of success. I had the opportunities, I had the resources and the time to do it. I actually felt it was a duty".
Jaap says that motivation and the great team he had found was an important part of his success.
