The sustainable development goals, most people have heard of them, but when will we make it mandatory to contribute to them? Still in the world 17% of people live on less than a dollar a day, this is because of companies not paying enough. But poverty is only one of the problems, we need to work hard.

Marga Hoek is today's Work Professor guest, Marga is a global thought leader in the field of sustainable business. She was CEO of several large publicly traded companies and wrote the worldwide award-winning book: The Trillion Dollar Shift.

Unsustainable businesses have it easier

Right now our systems are set up so that unsustainable companies are at an advantage. If we change this and adjust regulations we can force between 45% and 80% of companies to change. Marga describes in the podcast why this transition is coming and how it will happen.

The transition is underway

Unilever has studied that sustainable companies grow significantly faster at the moment than unsustainable companies. That, according to Marga, is where a great opportunity lies. You really can write a business case on a sustainable company in the meantime. Marga gives some very concrete tips: download and read up with a sustainable development app (see shownotes). There are lots of targets and indicators that can help you achieve a sustainable goal in very small steps. You don't have to come up with it all by yourself.
