"Only one third of SME's grow faster than the economy, and only 5% manage to hold on to that growth", Tom Mom discovered with his research at the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship. Today, he is the guest at the Werkprofessor and explains how this principle arises, and especially: what you have to do with it as a company.
Prof. Tom Mom is Professor of Strategic Growth and Implementation at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He did research on growth companies and together with Prof. Dr. Justin Jansen he wrote the book 'to a healthy growth company in five steps'.
How to get to the top 5%
To get to the top of the market, you have to go through the five growth steps. In this episode of the Work Professor, Tom explains the five steps: "explore the growth landscape, determine your growth formula, tell your growth story, learn growth skills and accelerate the growth engine". That sounds like a lot of work, but it quickly becomes clear through concrete examples.
Good is not good enough
"The biggest issue is that things are going so well at the moment", that is the challenge many successful companies face. If your business is doing well now, you need to be busy with change and development right now. If you don't develop now, and stay in your comfortable situation, you will miss the boat. In the podcast, Tom explains a number of cases to put these tactics into practice.
