Mark Rutte's call for young people to think more about the corona crisis is too easy, says Eveline Crone. Yet it is a very important and good call. Young people deserve, especially in times of crisis, a more important place at the table. The creativity and the way of thinking that young people possess are indispensable, and with the right guidance you can let it out. How you do that, you can hear in this podcast.
Make young people useful again
How does the corona crisis affect young people in the workplace? Eveline Crone investigates this during the crisis and continues to monitor a group of young people even after the crisis. It is a social responsibility to do something for this group of young people. "It's the phase in your life when you want to go out, make friends and discover things, all that falls away," loneliness among young people in this crisis is a major social problem. How can we use the creativity of young people especially in these times and thus make them a useful part of society again?
Eveline Crone is Professor of Developmental Neuroscience in Society at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences and in her research she deals with young people in the formative phase of their lives. Wendy van Ierschot, podcast maker for BNR, entrepreneur (VIE People) and investor (VIE Tech Capital) searches in this podcast for the answer to the question: how can we best deal with young people in the workplace and how do you create the ideal environment for young people to develop?
Opportunities
Eveline Crone calls for using the creativity that young people still possess within your business. With teenagers, creativity is different than with adults and is also very useful. Teenagers think in a different way and you can make use of that, thereby helping the young people as well. At the same time Eveline Crone mentions that it is still quite difficult to put this into practice. Yet in the podcast she gives a number of crucial tips to make young people more valuable.
Call
Young people care more about the world around them than we think. The term "the youth of today" is one that Eveline Crone is not a fan of. Especially now you notice that young people care much more about their environment, than the young people of "yesteryear. Eveline Crone makes an appeal to appreciate young people more and to invest more time in them.
