We live in a society full of conflict and polarisation, yet, in all that darkness, there is light. Because all those conflicts and polarisation can be the breeding ground for a very successful organisation.
Frank Weijers was trained in Deep Democracy, intervention science, transactional analysis, systemic work and Corporate Anthropology. He wrote the book 'conflict & polarisation - effective interventions'. From this book, he shares insights today and gives you, the listener, practical tips.
Red Thread
Deep Democracy, intervention science and transactional analysis. What is the common thread here? Frank takes you with him! "It's quite a mouthful. It's actually about people being able to have good conversations with each other. By that I mean that people speak frankly on the one hand. So they feel free to say what they want to say, and at times when they feel less free, they have the courage to say it anyway. And on the other hand, they are willing and able to listen to others frankly. Even when others say something you don't think, even in situations where it hooks up with what you think. If we can do these two things, we can communicate better with each other than we have up to now.
Connection
According to Frank, there are two forms of conflicts desirable and undesirable. "Desirable conflicts are those in which we disagree, but where we like it, speak out well and listen well. As soon as it goes off the rails on one of those two sides, we don't express ourselves properly or we don't hear each other anymore, then a form of undesirable conflict actually arises".
Frank says that the undesirability also lies in the fact that people lose touch with each other. According to him, this is what has become increasingly visible in recent years.
