Robots are everywhere, we've been hearing that for years now. But does your company already have one? Is there already a robot driving through the office building? In this episode of the Work Professor, we take a look with Prof. Dr. Gaby Odekerken at what robots exist and why they are a good business case for your workplace.
Gaby Odekerken is Chair in Customer-Centric Service Science at Maastricht University and researches robots in the workplace. The focus is not on robotization in production, but really in visible places such as restaurants or a service counter.
Fast casual dining
Robots naturally come into action first in places that are directly suitable for them. One example is a restaurant in Maastricht, where robots are being used to provide fast and good service and support staff. "I think increasingly we are going to see that robots are going to complement human work" explains Gaby, we need human contact and by using robots, staff can be freed up for what is important.
On my shop floor?
In the podcast, Gaby invites entrepreneurs to engage with their employees. "I hear healthcare employees say they regret having little time at the bedside, then put robots in to do those routine jobs." There are routine jobs in every workplace, so engage with your employees and make sure they are doing the right thing. Further in the podcast, we discuss the fear of robots, the business case and the roadmap for actually purchasing a robot.
