You often hear that when you want something, you can actually do it. Or that you will get there with enough perseverance and following the right path. Today's guest, Jelte Krist, does not agree with this. According to him, people today are running after a superhero script.
Jelte Krist is a lecturer at the Hogeschool Utrecht, has a background in Organisation Studies, his own consultancy firm and wrote the book "The Art of the Unattainable".
Interests
"It is an illusion to say that in a human system or a social system there is no power or hierarchy. To always say that the team must be equal and everyone must have a democratic say". According to Jelte, equality is very nice, but someone also has to make the decision. Even if people within an organisation say that it is not the case, there is always someone who naturally stands up and ultimately makes heads or tails of things.
In addition, there are almost always different interests within an organisation. When this is observed, it is important to discuss it with each other. But how do we relate to each other? In addition to expressing appreciation for each other, one can also ask critical questions and hold up a mirror to one's face. "Meddling is not a bad thing in this concept, but it is allowed in order to keep each other sharp and moving forward".
Seven principles
Jelte Krist's book discusses seven principles. The principles are about a process, an attitude and a way of working rather than a concrete solution. In the latest episode of the Work Professor, three of the seven principles are discussed.
