This week's theme is also innovations, this time inspired by biology. According to Dr. Jaco Appelman, bio-inspired innovation is the opportunity for your company. He co-wrote the book: Zo kan het ook - Optimistisch over een gezamenlijke, bio-inspired toekomst.
Jaco Appelman works at the University of Utrecht where he teaches and also conducts research on bio-inspired change and innovation. According to Jacco, nature is an innovation strategy that works for generations. A few years ago he set up the Master bio-inspired innovation, in which he teaches students about this interesting field. Currently, he is investigating how we can integrate ecosystem services into the built environment
Bio-inspired innovation for entrepreneurs
"For our health, it is important to function in the most natural environment possible." In addition, biomimicry, biophilia and the circular economy are core concepts of bio-inspired innovation. Wondering what these concepts mean and how they are too easy to apply in practice? Jacco explains it all to you in this podcast, because according to him, "a green century is right around the corner."
Innovation means opportunity
In the book Jacco discusses practical learning points based on nine themes: water, energy, food, infrastructure, work, living, products, recreation and lifestyle. Each theme contains interviews with pioneers who are already working on a bio-inspired society. Find out in this episode where the opportunities lie for greening your business premises and/or environment.
