Forming a bridge between science and business. That is the goal of the Work Professor. But how do you do that as a company? How do you stay connected to the developments taking place in science? That is what we are talking about with Prof. Deborah Nas.
Deborah Nas is part-time Professor of 'Strategic design for technology-based innovation' at the Faculty of Industrial Design at TU Delft. She believes that new scientific developments offer unprecedented opportunities for innovation in business. She also has a good idea of how this should be done.
Not only the big companies
Large multinationals have an easier time of it, in making connections with science. They have large R&D (Research and Development, ed.) departments that almost bring science in-house, says Deborah Nas. But there are also many possibilities for smaller companies: you can start with something as simple as a (graduation) trainee in your organisation.
Other possibilities
You can also bring the innovation in house in another way, explains Deborah Nas. There are many faculties that offer courses in which real-life problems are solved. So do you have a problem in your organisation? Then approach a university or college of higher education to see if they can do something with your issue, and it doesn't always have to cost money. In the podcast you will hear more about how Industrial Design (the field of Deborah Nas) can help you to solve a business issue in an innovative way.
